WJU Summer Career and Cultural Program Week 4

Four weeks of cultural, educational and career program allowed high school students from the United States and around the world the opportunity to learn about different cultures and customs, experience real college classes and explore career options. The students spent their last week here at WJU learning mainly the scientific, economic, political, and ecological perspectives of energy choices and their impacts. Particular emphasis was examining the lessons and impacts of coal and natural gas industry in the Appalachian region, for local as well as global communities.

Outside the classroom, the students had a trip to Kennywood Amusement Park in Pittsburgh where they experience fun rides such as the famous rollercoaster. They also visited the Pittsburgh Pirates at their home game against the Chicago Cubs. Unfortunately, the Pirates lost but the student still had a good time rocking out their Pittsburgh Pirates gear. Check out the photos!

Students from DePaul Cristo Rey High School in Cincinnati OH also arrived at our campus to take part of our summer event. They were the last group of Cristo Rey students from several states to visit WJU.

Jesuit's Got Talent Finale was also a fun event this week. The students got to show off their talents in singing and dancing. They also had a water balloon fight in front of Donahue building. Here are some photos of the students playing water balloon games.

Lastly, our visiting students prepared presentations about their stay here at WJU. It was heartbreaking to see them leave, but through their speeches it was nice to know they had a good time. President Beyer stopped by at the farewell gathering to give a meaningful speech. Here are photos of the gathering held at CET.

All of us at WJU especially the English Language Institute (ELI) hope to see our visiting students again! Here are group pictures of students from Spain, Mexico, Argentina, and Cincinnati.

WJU Summer Career and Cultural Program would not be possible without the English Language Institute staff. They have done a very nice job of making this summer a success. Here is a group photo of our lovely teachers at ELI.

Although the Summer Career and Cultural Program has officially ended, we are looking forward to all the fun when school starts again in the fall. Don't forget to check us out throughout the year for additional post. We here at ELI hope for everyone to have a good rest of the summer. See you!
