WJU Summer Career and Cultural Program Week 3
WJU’s career and cultural program is quickly coming to an end. We here at WJU hope that our visiting students are experiencing a summer they will cherish through their lives. Like any other week, this week was full of activities. The guys played basketball and the girls played soccer. Check out photos of our students showing off their skills.
This week, the students were introduced to Surrealism in
Art, the role of Myth and Magic in Literature and how culture influences our
understanding of what is strange or unusual. The students showed their
creativity on their collage projects in art class taught by Ms. Georgia
Tambasis, Professor of Visual Arts. Here are photos of the students with their
art projects.
After a long day of classes, the students got to have more
fun playing bowling at the local bowling alley, and dancing the night away at
the Red Carpet Dance in the Ratt. The girls looked glamorous and the guys
looked handsome. It was definitely a good night! Check out the photos.
To end the week, a group of Spanish students went to a West Virginia trip. They visited Prickett’s Fort in Fairmont, WV where Capt. Jacob Prickett and other WV settlers lived in the 1700’s. In addition, they toured the Governor’s Mansion, Capital Building, and the West Virginia Museum all located in Charleston, WV. Here are photos of the students enjoying a little piece of West Virginia history.
As part of their West Virginia tour, the West Virginia Museum provided our students with video cameras that they can use to record interesting things inside the building. Here is a video from a student's video camera as they enter and begin the tour.
While others are touring West Virginia, another group of
students participated in the Root Beer Float Fundraiser for Easter Seals. With
the help of the local Kroger store, the students made root beer floats and sold
them for a dollar to help fund services to individuals with disabilities and
developmental delays.
